So, what is this blog about anyway? Musings, mind quests, meaning and understanding.

The Oxford Dictionary describes sanctuary as  a place of refuge or safety from pursuit, persecution, or other danger.  Sanctuary is derived from the Latin word sanctuarium. The root word ‘arium’ is defined as a container to keep something in.  This blog, Sanctuary, is a safe place to store a wide array of thoughts.  This blog was created to provide information to reflect on, in the face of a very complex world.

My name is Rose.  I would describe my myself as a creative and inquisitive person.  There are many topics that spark my interest.  I often wonder why things are the way they are and how they came to be what they are now.  I think about how there are certain things in life that make life easier, while some things are left unanswered for a time.  I walk the line between being an optimist and cynic, depending on the topic that arises.   My views are influenced by my biography.  I grew up in East Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where the pretty, the ugly and the creative collide to make something uniquely beautiful.  I compare my childhood neighbourhood to the the Japanese aesthetic, Wabi-Sabi.  In his book, Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers, author Leonard Koren, describes the aesthetic as “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.” So much of the information we stumble upon is much like the concept of Wabi-Sabi, “”imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.”  How we interpret information is what matters, as it encourages a search for more meaning and understanding.

I hope, in my musings and mind quests, you will be inspired to contemplate the ins-and-outs of the world we all live in.  I hope the information found here, sparks in you a need to pursue your own search for knowledge, meaning and understanding.  I think we all benefit from each and everyone’s engagement in such a task.

Thanks for checking out my blog!
